What is Plasma Pen Fibroblasting?

As we age, the dermal layer thins, less collagen is produced, the elastin fibers which provide our elasticity wear out & all these changes in the scaffolding of the skin cause it to wrinkle & sag.

In simple terms - our skin loses laxity & texture as we grow older. It becomes loose, it sags & lines & wrinkles appear. Think of it like the scaffolding of a building if it were to rust, weaken and become unable to bear load or maintain flexibility - it will eventually sag & collapse.

How does The Plasma Pen work?

The Plasma Pen handpiece converts electrical energy into an electrostatic energy which is transmitted to the applicator tip (probe) by impulse. The device creates an electrical discharge between two electrodes separated by an Insulating dielectric barrier'. A charge collects on the surface of the barrier & discharges a flash of plasma via the 0.4mm probe within millionths of a second. Using a continuous direct energy source; we ionise nitrogen & oxygen in the air to create a plasma gas. This plasma gas is sustained by the devices' unique fingertip & on-demand control.

In using Plasma Pen, we contract the epidermis by creating external micro-traumas and we encourage it to generate fresh, beautiful new skin cells at the surface which deliver incredible skin tightening, lift and rejuvenation. The plasma flash we create transfers to the skin with absolute precision and does not harm any surrounding tissue. This thermal disruption later causes excess skin to dry superficially into tiny crusts which fall off in the form of tiny flakes within days.

Simultaneously, our plasma flash penetrates to the fibroblasts contained within the dermis below and this stimulates accelerated division & migration of collagen cells. The dermis is composed of approximately 95% collagen and fibroblasts rarely undergo division unless stimulated by a wound healing process or inflammatory response and we do just that with Plasma Pen (which is why we call it fibroblasting).

How many treatments would I need?

The results from this treatment are permanent, so usually a single treatment is enough to achieve the results you want. However, if you do want a stronger result then we can repeat the procedure after 3 months. Because of its permanency you will only need to repeat it if required further down the line as we genetically age, so results lasts 3-4 years, depending on our individual aging process.

Does it hurt?

The procedure is almost painless and the results are immediately visible. The treatment is particularly gentle on the body. We apply a high grade topical numbing cream to make you comfortable during the treatment.

How soon are results visible?

It immediately contacts the skin after treatment causing instant skin tightening. But Final results will be seen 8 to 12 weeks after the procedure. Collagen productions will also be stimulated for up to 6 months after.

What to expect on the day of the treatment:

On the treatment day, it is recommended that no make-up is worn on the treatment area.

A numbing agent is applied and left to take effect for up to 20-25 minutes. When the treatment area is sufficiently numb, the session begins with the plasma pen creating the dots spaced closely together. You may feel some heat in the treatment area, which may be uncomfortable and slightly irritating. But most generally clients don't feel the treatment being done. Treatment time is usually between 20-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area.

Immediately after treatment the area may be red and mildly swollen with small carbon crusts (spots). You may experience a sensation similar to a sun burn which will likely last an hour or 2. Swelling may appear over the following few hours but more so when eyes are treated and may last 3-4 days. The carbon crusts will lift within 4 -8 days depending on the individual and area treated. Results gradually improve over the course of the following 8 weeks.

Following treatment you will be given thorough aftercare instructions to ensure that you see the best results. . In the week following treatment (or until the treatment area has fully healed) an exfoliating wash or cleanser should not be used. Avoid Alcohol based cleansers until the area has healed.

Contraindications:

You should be in good health at the time of the appointment, with no pre-existing health conditions. If you display signs of cold or flu the treatment should be rescheduled.
You should not be inflamed in the area we are treating prior to procedure.
Prone to keloid scars are not ideal candidates.
If you have type 1 diabetes, healing disorders or lymphatic draining issues should not undergo treatment.
Clients with a sunburn postpone treatment.
If the area being treated was in the sun recently and is very tanned.
Clients who have a history of Hyperpigmentation are not ideal candidates.
Clients must not display any tanning at the time of the treatment.
Clients must not display Cold sores/Fever blisters (Herpes Simplex Virus). You will need to reschedule your appointment if you are experiencing an outbreak. If you have experienced Herpes Simplex Virus (Cold sores/Fever blisters) in the past you must see your Medical Doctor and obtain a prescription for Zovirax and begin taking it 3 days before treatment and for 4 days following treatment. (This applies for treatments surrounding the lip area only)
Not for clients with pace makers.
Epilepsy
Not for clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Clients with Eyelash extensions receiving upper or lower eyelid treatment must have lashes removed prior to treatment and reapplied after 8 weeks.
This treatment is only recommended on light to medium skin tones . Anyone with a darker complexions is at risk for Hyperpigmentation.

Can I immediately reapply my makeup?

No, makeup should be avoided until the area is healed. Usually 4-7 days after.

Can I go into the sun?

Avoid the sun for the next week as the area is sensitive and is creating new cells. Wear sunglasses and apply your Sun Protection, preferably a SPF 50.

Cost of treatment

How long does it last?

As Fibroblasting is more than a simple tightening treatment (skin volume is actually permanently reduced), the effects should last as long as they would with invasive surgery. It’s not temporary or something you have to continue to touch up. You simply repeat the treatment when your skin ‘re-ages’ over the years following the last treatment (3-4 years). Like all surgical and cosmetic procedures, the effects of fibroblasting is not entirely permanent (Forever) as it does not stop any further ageing, but the positive results should last years depending on the area treated. The positive effects of treatment will be noticeable immediately after the first treatment, but the final results will be seen after 8 weeks. For some, an additional treatment may be required after 8 weeks for maximum results. Additionally, there are lifestyle factors that can prevent the result from lasting as long as they can, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and prolonged sun exposure.
