What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is also known as dermal planing or epidermal levelling. Its both an exfoliation and hair removal treatment for the face. In this pain-free treatment, a trained skin therapist uses a sterile surgical scalpel (no razor) to gently scrape away dead, dull skin cells from the face, as well as removing peach-fuzz (vellus hair) facial hair. The result is extremely smooth skin, for makeup that goes on butter smooth with a glowing finish.
โ
By removing this layer of dry, dead skin cells it also allows your active serums and other skincare products to penetrate the skin’s deeper layers, making them more effective. This is the perfect treatment for those who are a little self-conscious about facial hair on the cheeks and above the lips, as foundations and powders tend to cling to these hairs (making them more obvious). Facial waxing or tweezing can often be a tedious task to remove the vellus hairs.

What to expect during the treatment?
While using a surgical blade at a perfect 45 degree angle, the sensation the client feels is gentle, completely painless, and very relaxing. You may also hear a light brushing sound as the blade makes quick strokes across your face. Some clients find it so relaxing that they even doze off during their treatments.
Will It Cause My Hair to Grow Back Thicker or Darker?
No. There is a common misconception that shaving will cause hair to grow back thicker and darker, but this treatment won’t have this effect. The treatment does not interact with the hair follicles or have any impact on the rate at which the hair on your face grows. After the treatment, your hair will continue growing at the same rate it always has. Genetics and hormones are the main determining factor in how fast and dark hair grows.
What to expect after the treatment?
Your skin will be slightly red and sensitive right after the Dermaplaning procedure. You may notice that your skin looks brighter immediately after you’re finished with your Dermaplaning treatment, but it often takes a few days to appreciate the full results. As any redness subsides, you’ll be able to see the results more clearly in the days afterward.
Who Can Benefit?
Just about anyone who wants to get rid of peach fuzz and other fine facial hairs, and who wants exfoliation, can benefit from this treatment. Because it is gentle and noninvasive, the treatment is also ideal for patients who have limitations that prevent them from seeking other treatments, including pregnant women, individuals with extra-sensitive skin, and those who need to avoid the chemicals found in some other products and services.
What Should I Do After a Treatment?
Sunscreen and sun avoidance are an important part of any skincare routine, and they’ll be especially important in the days following treatment. We also recommend that you refrain from using retinol 4-5 days after and exfoliants for 7 days after the treatment. Otherwise, the post-treatment days are a great time to indulge in your favorite high-potency moisturizing masks, creams, and serums.
May I exercise or apply makeup after Dermaplaning?
Exercise that produces a lot of heavy sweating should be avoided the day of the treatment. You may resume all regular activities the next day with caution. Avoid makeup application for the rest of day after the treatment.
How frequently can I do Dermaplaning?
We recommend waiting at least 4 weeks between treatments to give your skin the proper amount of time to rejuvenate after those dead skin cells have been sloughed off. It will take a few weeks for your facial hair to begin growing back in.
Is it safe to perform on all Skintypes and ages?
Yes.
All skin types and tones can be treated. It is important to note that whilst all skin tones can be worked on that everyone's healing process and reaction differs. This will be discussed in the consultation.
